“If a race has no history, if it has no worthwhile tradition, it becomes a negligible factor in the thought of the world, and it stands in danger of being exterminated.” ― Carter G. Woodson
For Black History Month, The Department of African American Studies honors the achievements of exceptional African American, African, Latin American, and Caribbean hidden figures of untaught history who made breakthroughs in all topics including civil rights, history, science, education, and the arts. We honor these heroes of all ages and generations in the continued struggle to pursue equality and social justice. May we celebrate and remember the milestones these heroes paved amidst hate, racism, and oppression.
