For Black History Month, The Department of African American Studies honors Chrissybil Boulin, who is a Forbes 30 Under 30 nominee that was recognized for her successes as Founder of the Jump Start Tutoring Center in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

With only $500, less than a hundred followers on Instagram, and little to no business expertise, Boulin launched Jump Start Tutoring Center, an at-home and virtual tutoring business that provides students technical and academic skills to prepare their college career. Boulin's success stems from her passions for teaching kids and resolving the poverty crisis as well as grassroots organizing and word-of-mouth by her community and support circle. Her leadership at the center improved SAT scores by 180 points on average and advanced opportunities in tutoring, college readiness, homeschooling and machine learning for over 4000 students.

Boulin's career jumpstarted as Founder of the Merkabah International Foundation, a non-profit organization that supported Haitian schoolchildren against the hunger crisis. Her company provided school supply drives, curriculum development, research opportunities, and mindfulness workshops. After witnessing Haiti's struggles with food insecurity and economic stability, Boulin, a Haitian-American woman, took it upon herself to dedicate her life to the fight against poverty through affordable and accessible education. She saw education as a catalyst towards long-term economic stability for low-income and underprivileged communities.
