The University of Maryland Libraries are pleased to announce the acquisition of two historical newspaper resources. African American Newspapers in the South 1870-1926 and Woman's Tribune, 1883-1909 are now available to UMD faculty, staff, and students as a direct result of our membership in the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA). These resources, both produced by Accessible Archives, are made available through the BTAA Collective Investment Program (CIP, formerly Large Scale Acquisitions program) and provide access to millions of pages of full-text primary source content to all BTAA member libraries.

We would like to thank Acquisitions, Continuing Resources, & Data Services (ACRDS), especially Nancy Caldwell and Leigh Ann DePope, for their work in making these resources available.

Please share this information with students, faculty, academic units, and other researchers. You can find by title search in Database Finder (https://lib.guides.umd.edu/az.php). Please direct any access questions to libcshelp [at] umd.edu/" target="_blank">libcshelp [at] umd.edu.

For those interested in the history of African American newspapers, Accessible Archives has just released a paper “To Advocate and Inform – The Contribution of African American Newspapers” by Jill O’Neill, available at: https://www.accessible-archives.com/2023/04/white-paper-contribution-of-african-american-newspapers/.
