“Many of the factors (that contribute to gun violence) are further upstream,” said Joseph Richardson, the Joel and Kim Feller Endowed Professor of African American studies and Anthropology.
The 120 Initiative on Gun Violence, a group of experts from Washington D.C. that promote anti-violence education and anti-gun violence policy and programming, held an inaugural regional conference on gun violence education.
Present was Dr. Darryll Pines, University President for the University of Maryland and Co-Founder of the 120 Initiative, as well as, Dr. Joseph Richardson, Joel & Kim Feller Professor of African American Studies and Anthropology. As an interventionist in Hospital-based violence intervention programs (HVIP), Richardson studies the roots and consequences of community violence primarily on young Black men. Richardson reviews community violence programming on its ability to provide psychosocial services to trauma-induced survivors of gun and community violence.
