The University of Maryland, College Park is grateful for the generous commitment of Harry C. Alford III ’08 and Thomas C. Alford ’07 to establish the $25,000 Alford Family Current-Use Scholarship in honor of Val Skeeter in African American Studies through the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc. This current-use fund will provide merit-based scholarships for undergraduate students majoring in African American Studies in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland.
Ms. Valencia Skeeter served as the Director of Administrative Services in the Department of African American Studies for 25 years. In her role, Ms. Skeeter, generous in her time and talents, provided dedicated service, shared valuable career expertise as well as held institutional knowledge with students, alumni, faculty and fellow staff members. Ms. Skeeter retired in June 2017 from the University of Maryland.
