It is with great excitement that we announce our second installment of a series of Brown Bag Seminar events for the Spring 2022 semester in the Department of African American Studies at the University of Maryland!
Lecturer and Coordinator of the Certificate in African Studies, Dr. George Kintiba, will be leading the next Brown Bag event on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 12:30pm – 2pm EDT.

Description:
The title of Dr. Kintiba’s discussion is “Black Soldiers in French War of Liberation”.
The event is a presentation of a-two year investigation on the presence of "Black Soldiers in the French War of Liberation," which Dr. Kintiba plans to publish in one or more of the following journals:
- Journal of African History
- International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences.
This work looks into the conditions and treatments that Black soldiers taken by force, from all French African colonies and Caribbean overseas French territories, were subjected to during and after their military campaigns of the liberation of France from the Nazis during World War II. It also looks into the war effort imposed on the Africans to contribute to offsetting the cost of war while finding themselves caught in the power struggle between General Charles Gaule and Marechal Petain.
