Ashley Newby and John E. Drabinski, faculty members in the Department of African American and Africana Studies, recently received a grant from the Mellon Foundation in support of their work on the past, present, and future of the field of Black Studies. That work includes a recently launched podcast series hosting scholars, activists, and artists in conversation about the significance of the history and the present of Black Studies, as well as critical questions about its future. The podcast is live and adding conversations weekly. You can subscribe to the podcast via the Substack site, follow on Instagram, Twitter, Threads, and Facebook, and tune in on Spotify, Audible, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, or any other major streaming service.
In addition to the podcast, Ashley and John will host a series of speakers in the coming semesters, highlighted by a pair of spring semester 2025 symposia. One will feature undergraduates from the region, and one will feature a cluster of scholars exploring new horizons for writing and research in the field of Black Studies.
